CMPM now accepting grant proposals for corn research

LANSING, Mich. — The Corn Marketing Program of Michigan (CMPM) is accepting grant proposals for corn research for 2019. Proposals are due Nov. 20 by 5 p.m.

In the interest of moving the entire industry ahead, CMPM has worked with the Michigan Corn Growers Assoc. (MCGA) to define the needs of the state corn industry. By working together and leveraging the talents of both boards, both organizations are better able to serve the interests of Michigan’s corn growers.

Proposals will be reviewed by the CMPM board of directors, which is made up of corn producers from across the state. The projects selected for funding will be announced in February 2019. Projects are sought that meet one or more of the following priorities:

•Enhancing the value of Michigan’s corn industry through new and expanded corn markets and value-added uses

•Supporting research that looks at corn production systems that are sustainable, protective of the environment and economically feasible

•Supporting research that improves the financial future for farm families and businesses

The 2019 Request for Proposals can be accessed online at www.micorn.org/research

For answers to questions, contact Natalie Rector at nrector@micorn.org or 517-668-2676.

(mug in 6434)

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indiana Corn Marketing Council Board member Josh Miller was elected to the board of directors of the U.S. Grains Council (USGC). USGC is headquartered in Washington, D.C., but has a full-time presence in 13 key markets around the world and operates programs in more than 50 countries.

Miller will serve until July 2019. He is the fifth generation to work on his Madison County farm near Anderson. The farm produces 850 acres of corn with additional acreage in soybeans. His passion to expand U.S. export markets for corn inspired him to seek a position on the USGC board.

A world traveler, Miller served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked overseas as a finance officer for Lockheed Martin. He is the second Hoosier elected as a board member to the Council, which was launched in 1960.

Miller’s wife, Jennifer, is a veterinarian for Elanco Animal Health and they have two children.
