Case backhoe tops Indiana consignment auction
LANESVILLE, Ind. — During a consignment auction hosted by Beckort Auctions, LLC in Lanesville, Ind. on March 27, a 1992 Case IH 7140 MFWD with 836 hours sold for $57,500. Angus bull tops MCA-MSU Performance Bull Test sale
CRYSTAL, Mich. — An outstanding set of bulls, standing-room only crowd and steady cattle prices played a significant role in creating a successful Michigan Cattlemen’s Association (MCA) - Michigan State University (MSU) Bull Test site. Seventy-one bulls representing five breeds grossed $130,400 to average $1,837. The top-selling animal was Lot 3 Angus bull owned by Bordner Farms, from Sturgis, Mich., and was purchased by Leo, Lori and Marcus Gaffney, of Gaffney Farms in Wales, Mich. for $4,500. Mark Sears, from Horton, Mich., was the volume buyer when he purchased seven bulls.
Fifty-five buyers bought performance tested bulls that were evaluated for growth, structural soundness, disposition and reproductive potential. All bulls were ultrasounded to evaluate rib, eye area, external fat and percent intra-muscular fat. Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) for growth, maternal and carcass traits were available to assist buyers in evaluating bulls for their operations.
The sale results were as follows: 43 Angus bulls averaged $1970, one Red Angus bull sold for $1,600, two Charlais bulls averaged $1,300, six Herefords averaged $1,633 and 19 Simmentals averaged $1,668. Many of the bulls sold to repeat buyers from previous MCA-MSU Bull Test sales.
The 2010 MCA Performance Bull Test was held in March, in cooperation with Michigan State University and the bulls were tested at the Plank Farm in Crystal, Mich.
Farm auction sells JD 4310 for $10,600
On March 20, Jim McKinney hosted an auction on his farm, featuring a John Deere 4310 tractor that sold for $10,600.
“Bidding was very active all day with 325 registered buyers,” said Auctioneer Jon W. Carr.
Other items of interest at the Dayton, Ohio sale included a 2003 Chevy 3500 truck for $13,100; a Terex backhoe for $15,100, and a Ponderosa 16-foot stock trailer for $2,900.
