Illinois farmland sells for more than $7,000 an acre

CATLIN, Ill. — On Oct. 19, 84 acres, owned by Hilda M. Church, in two tracts sold for a total of $603,587 dollars.
The first tract consisting of 48.5 acres of prime tillable ground in Catlin, Ill., sold for $7,175 an acre.

The second tract consisting of 35.5 acres of prime tillable ground also in Catlin sold for $7,200 an acre.

According to Auctioneer Tim Busby, of Butler, Busby and Hicks Land and Auction, LLC, “these were record-breaking prices for farm ground selling at auction in our area. There were no building improvements on these properties.”

Busby also said that the buyers of each tract were local farmers.

Kentucky hunting property sold for $2.49 million

OWENSBORO, Ky. — The Highground Hunting Club property was sold at auction by Kurtz Auction & Realty Company on Thursday, Oct. 29 for $2,490,000 or $2,798 per acre.

About 100 hunting enthusiast gathered just before dusk at the Rock Springs Lodge to enjoy the view of the Sloughs Wildlife Management Area and the skyline of Evansville 25 miles away and to compete for this prime hunting land.

When the bidding ended, the High-ground unit with two lodges, blinds, controlled flooding and wooded hill land sold for $1,800,000 or $3,622 per acre.  The Jenny Hole area sold in two tracts for $690,000 or $1,756 per acre.  It was a mix of wooded and open CRP (Conserve Reserve Program) land with three sloughs.
Jason Blue and John Kurtz, project managers for this auction, advertised this property as “some of the premier hunting ground in mid-America.”

The accommodations, trails and food plots were enhanced by the unusual juxtaposition of waterfowl producing sloughs next to steep rocky hills, home to an abundance of large deer and turkey.
