Former Specter-Casey Bill begins to find support in Washington D.C.
Dennis Boyanowski, President of the Progressive Agriculture Organization (Pro-Ag), reported recently that officials of Pro-Ag have made another successful trip to Washington D.C. on behalf of the Federal Milk Marketing Improvement Act of 2011. (formerly called the Specter-Casey Bill, S-1645).

An important meeting was held with Lori Pepper, the Agriculture Aide for Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi, (D-Calif.), serves as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives. Another successful meeting was held with Agriculture Aides of Congressman Eric Cantor (R-Va.). Congressman Cantor serves as the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives.

Arden Tewksbury, Manager of Pro-Ag, said, “We had several other important meetings with aides from several other members of Congress including Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-N.Y.), Congressman Tom Marino (R-Pa.), Congressman Lou Barletta (R-Pa.), Congressman Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.). Tewksbury had a personal meeting with Congressman Richard Hanna (R-N.Y.).”

Boyanowski said, “The officials of Pro-Ag had a very informative meeting with aides of Pennsylvania’s new U.S. Sen. Patrick Toomey. (R-Pa.).”

Currently the Federal Milk Marketing Act of 2011 has been properly formatted by the U.S. Senate Legislative Counsel, and is now ready to go to the Legislative Counsel of the U.S. House of Representatives. The proposal which will be sent to the House of Representatives Legislative Counsel will be the same as the U.S. Senates’ version.

Tewksbury said, “While our trips to Washington have been very meaningful, I want to caution everyone that several dairy proposals are being kicked around in Washington. However, the Federal Milk Marketing Improvement Act of 2011 is the only proposal that conforms with the U.S. Agriculture Act of 1937. This Act calls for the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to use the dairy farmers’ cost of production in the pricing formula to determine the value of milk at the dairy farmers operation.”

Boyanowski is suggesting that all dairy farmers contact their U.S. Senators and members of the U.S. House of Representatives and urge them to support the Federal Milk Marketing Improvement Act of 2011.
