Allen County names 2006 Outstanding 4-H Club
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The New Millennium Farm-Llama Lovers 4-H Club was recognized recently as the Outstanding 4-H Club for 2006 at the 4-H Awards Ceremony held during the Allen County Fair.
They were selected from more than 37 different 4-H Clubs in Allen County to receive this honor.
This 12-member club is a Llama Club that meets in the northeast section of Allen County. They participated in numerous community service projects this year.
Members took their llamas to many locations such as retirement centers, schools and a hospital. They assisted in Allen County 4-H Board fund-raisers throughout the year and in community parades.
The club received a certificate and a cash gift from Allen County 4-H Clubs Inc. They also received a traveling banner and a plaque. Volunteer 4-H Leaders for the club include Karen Fenker, Tom Fenker, Sharon Kersjes, Kristen Fenker and Amber Stewart.
In addition, 18 other 4-H Clubs were recognized for their work over the past year. Gold Club Recognition went to: Aboite Homesteaders, Blue Ribbons, Llama Lovers-Critter Haven Farm, Marion BG’s and Three Rivers 4-H.
Silver Club Recognition went to: Crafty Cubs, Golden Hearts, Junior Leaders and Sporthorse.
Bronze Club Recognition went to: Cedar Creek Companions, City and Country Pals, Eel River, Ladies and Gents, Maumee Go Getters, Mustangs, Perry Boosters, Super Stars and Three Rivers Rabbit Raisers.
Cargill awards $1,000 scholarship to Parkway High School student
ROCKFORD, Ohio — Cargill has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Jessica Suman, a 2006 graduate of Parkway High School in Rockford. She plans to study elementary education at Ohio State University-Columbus.
Each year, the Cargill Community Scholarship Program awards $1,000 scholarships to 350 students in Cargill communities.
Students are selected based on academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular and other activities. Cargill also provides a small grant to each scholarship recipient’s high-school library.
The National FFA Organization administers the scholarship program on behalf of Cargill.
“We are pleased to partner with FFA to reward outstanding students and support their efforts to continue on to higher education,” said Michelle Grogg, director of corporate contributions for Cargill.
“Cargill and its subsidiary businesses have a long-standing commitment to education and will continue to seek opportunities to nourish the potential of young people in our communities.”
