Farms long owned by Morgan
Foods set for April 11 auction

SCOTTSBURG, Ind. — Morgan Foods, headquartered in Austin, Ind., will offer six farms at auction Saturday, April 11, with Schrader Real Estate and Auction Co. marketing the property and handling the event.
The farms – a total of 1,674 acres – are located in Clark, Jackson, Jefferson, Scott and Washington counties and will be offered in approximately 25 tracts. The auction will begin at 11 a.m. April 11 at Mid-America Science Park Banquet Room in Scottsburg.
The farms have been owned by Morgan Foods for decades and are approximately two-thirds cropland, with the rest consisting of woodland and recreational land near Hardy Lake.
“Some of this land was once used for growing produce for the Morgan Foods business, but in recent years, the Morgan family has leased the cropland for use in growing corn, soybeans and wheat. We will be marketing these farms locally, regionally and nationally,” said Steve Slonaker, who is managing the auction for Schrader.
Morgan Foods President Louis Gottsponer Jr. said, “These farms have been in the family and have not been offered previously. We feel this will be a great opportunity for farmers, investors, and buyers of timberland and recreational land.”
Additional detailed auction information is available by visiting www.schraderauction.com or calling 800-451-2709. Online bidding will be available for bidders who register by one week before the auction date.
Morgan Foods Inc. was founded in 1899 and is a leading privately held manufacturer of store brand soups, broths, beans, gravies and sauces.
Kentucky cropland sells
for $4,833 per acre

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. — Two local business/farmland owners bought 194.72 acres of gently rolling land, mostly cropland, in late February. They paid $942,095 for the property, or $4,833 per acre. It is located about four miles east of Madisonville, just south of Highway 70.
About 70 acres of the total is reclaimed strip-mined land. Improvements included a partially restored farmhouse and older farm structures with very little contributory value.
