Farm World now fostering funny farm photo & video submissions

By MARK BUTZOW
Associate Editor

KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. — At the end of a long day slogging through muddy fields or slopping the hogs, who doesn’t enjoy falling into a recliner and watching mindless entertainment like “AFV: America’s Favorite Videos?”
Now, picture a version with farm-related content. That’s the idea of a new initiative of Farm World and its social media platforms. Called #FarmFailFridays, “It’s our own new social media series, and it’s interactive because we’re asking people to send photos in, or videos, of things like equipment stuck in the mud or farm kids being crazy,” says Casie Conley, an account executive who also handles social media for the newspaper.
The idea is to mix in a little fun with the serious news content available on the newspaper’s website, its Facebook page, the Instagram account and its Twitter feed.
“We encourage people to share their photos and videos with us, and we may repost them. We hope they’ll feel cool when their ‘farm fails’ are posted on a site with thousands of followers.” To do that, Conley says social media followers can tag them #FarmFailFridays on social media platforms or send submissions by email to farmfails@farmworldonline.com
Once Farm World gets a number of entries, Conley will act as host (with Publisher Tony Gregory manning the camera) and record a video segment to post on the social media sites. Conley imagines those #FarmFailFridays reports might remind viewers of shows like America’s Funniest Videos or the E! channel’s The Soup.
Those videos will go on Farm World’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/FarmWorld) for all to see and enjoy. The newspaper also will post an announcement of new segments on its Twitter feed (@FarmWorld) and its Instagram account (@FarmWorldNews).
The paper’s traditional website at www.farmworldonline.com will stick to what it does best – sharing news stories on agricultural practices, economics, policy and innovations, along with views and opinions from regular columnists. And access to Farm World classified ads is available to newspaper subscribers.
Also available on the website is the Equipment Mart, a searchable database of new and used implements, vehicles and farm equipment for sale. It pulls together listings of items from the dealers advertising equipment for sale in the newspaper, allowing the user to search for the specific equipment they seek. The link to Equipment Mart is in the upper right of the www.farmworldonline.com homepage.
