McDuffee and Haseman are juniors in home economics and Morris is an agriculture school senior.

Rushville FFA Chapter held its awards banquet and honored five members who received their State Farmer degrees. They were Kevin Hoeing, Richard Spaeth, Kenny Aulback, Robert Newhouse and Frank Harpering.
President Gerald Ford vetoed a bill boosting 1975 price guarantees for wheat, feed grains, soybeans, cotton and milk, sighting it would add an unnecessary $1.8 billion to his budget deficit and would be “costly not only to consumers and taxpayers, but to American farmers in the long run.”

Northrup King Co. recently announced the opening of a new hybrid corn research center in Napoleon, Ohio. The company’s breeders at this location will focus on development of superior corn hybrids in the 105- to 115-day maturity zone, according to Dr. Carol Yung, corn breeder and research station manager. The 60-acre site includes a 3,600 square-foot building, a 20-acree nursery and 40 acres for yield trials.

Gov. Mitch Daniels signed HEA 1008 into law to create the Indiana State Department of Agriculture and separate the Office of Rural Affairs. Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman will become secretary of the new department.
Schwieterman Egg Farm Partnership of Fort Recovery, Ohio, owned and operated by father and son Ron and Kasey Schwieterman, was awarded the Family Farm Environmental Excellence Award sponsored by the U.S. Poultry and Egg Assoc.
