719 acres of Ohio farmland goes for more than $3.4 million at sale
WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — On Saturday, Feb. 17, a crowd of more than 150 turned out to the Fayette County Fairgrounds to see some of the finest farm ground in the county go up for auction.

More than 700 acres of productive farmland owned by the Bischoff family was up for bids due to the recent passing of the family’s parents. A cold, snowy day reduced the crowd, but there were still 43 registered bidders and many spectators from all across Ohio, Indiana, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland.

Weade Realtors and Auctioneers conducted the multi-parcel sale using the Auction Flex Computer system projecting the power point leader board coordinated with a visual map to display the bidding.

The total of the sale was more than $3.4 million for the 718.58 acres - an average of $4,847 per acre. This price included three houses. The tillable acreage tracts ranged from $4,164 per acre to $5,384 per acre for one 186-acre tract with a small grain system.

These prices were the highest price paid for non-development farmland in Fayette County. Parts of the farm are located next to the new Cargill Ethanol Plant now being constructed at Bloomingburg.
