Sometimes, God encourages with an unexpected surprise

By SANDRA SHERIDAN
Verses from Mama

Jeremiah 33:3 "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."

Sometimes God encourages us with unexpected surprises!

The other day I was admiring my flowerbeds when I saw a flash of color peeking under the sweet potato plants’ glossy leaves. I knelt down, moved aside the foliage, and to my surprise saw a delicate pink flower blossom. I had not expected these leaves to produce any blossoms, but there it was – my special surprise.

God has many other astonishing wonders for us to discover. We only have to take the time to look for these hidden beauties.

Even in the midst of sadness and heartbreak, there are precious promises and sweet surprises to be found if we will only ask.

During one of the prophet Jeremiah’s difficult life circumstances, the Creator of the earth spoke words of comfort to him. While Jeremiah was confined in a courtyard prison, the Lord said, "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."

Jeremiah did call and God revealed His plan for the nation of Israel. Though they had turned from God and were suffering the devastating consequences of their sin, there was a bright future ahead. God promised to restore the health of the land and to return His captive people to their home. Their city would bring joy, praise and honor to God from all nations on earth who heard of God’s blessings.

The imprisoned prophet gave thanks to the Lord and proclaimed, "... the Lord is good; His love endures forever."

God still has immeasurable surprises for us today. If we call upon Him He will reveal great and unsearchable things that we do not know.

When we are:

•Without provision He can supply our every need

•Weak He can strengthen our tired limbs

•Desperate He can calm our nerves with His peace

•Lonely He can provide true companionship

And:

•When we are in need of a little beauty, He may surprise us with a dainty, pink flower hidden under the sweet potato leaves

Call on Him today.
