Chattin receives IASWCD President’s Award
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Retired Knox County farmer and forester Ray Chattin was recently honored with the President’s Award from outgoing Indiana Assoc. of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (IASWCD) President Jim Droege.

The President’s Award is given annually to an individual who has served as an important advisor to the IASWCD president during his or her term of office. Chattin is retired from farming and is devoted full-time to his tree farm, sawmill and hardwood lumber business.
He has served as a Knox County SWCD supervisor for more than 20 years, including two terms as chairman. He is one of three associate supervisors and a past South-Southwest Region Director on the IASWCD board of directors. He also served one term as IASWCD secretary. Chattin currently is co-chair of the IASWCD Legislative Committee and also serves on the Natural Resources Policy Committee.

Four in SWCD named Employees of Year

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Four Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) staff were honored as District Employees of the Year for their outstanding service to landowners, the public at large, and the conservation community.

Selection of the recipients was based on service to the public, willingness to participate “above and beyond the call of duty,” professional ethics, attitude toward responsibility, dedication to the principles of natural resource conservation and measurable accomplishments.

The award is sponsored by the Indiana District Employees Assoc. and the Indiana Assoc. of Soil and Water Conservation District. It was presented in four categories to: Administrative/Secretarial, Sheryl Brown of Wayne County; Technical, Eric Kurtz of Elkhart County; Educational, Richard Glassman of St. Joseph County; and Multi-task, Martha Miller of Monroe County.
