Wrenching Tales By Cindy Ladage In December, the Greater Peoria Farm Show kicked off the farm show season. With 2025 rolling in, and collectors looking for events to attend for their antique tractor hobby fun, here are a few ag show finds. With antique tractor shows are months away, these farm shows, farm toy shows and winter club events help fill the void. In January, the Quad City Farm Show will be the 19th -21st in Rock Island, Ill., at the QCCA Expo Center. This kicks off the first farm show of the year. Next door to the show is the cool Quad City Botanical Center which is perfect for those looking for some warmth, flowers and sunshine during the chilly January. Just a few days later, the Purchase Area Antique Tractor Club Winter Show will be Jan. 25 at the Murray State Expo Center in Murray, Ky. This show is put on by the Purchase Area Antique Tractor Club. Gordyville USA is home to the 2025 Midwest AG Expo Jan. 22-23 in Gifford, Ill. Collectors from Historic Farm Days and Friends of Green are usually set up with antique tractors, and information about the upcoming Half Century of Progress. This event is usually where they unveil the theme of the Half Century show. The big daddy farm show, the Gateway MidAmerica Toy Show, is Jan. 31-Feb. 2 in St. Louis at the Sheraton Westport. This is one of farm toy collectors’ longtime favorite shows because of the farm model contest. Toy vendors are set up on Saturday, then there is a model and farm layout contest and live auction. It’s a great place to see scratch-built farm toys and nice farm memorabilia as well. For those that are into trucks, a visit to the Midwest Truck & Trailer Show may be the ticket. Scheduled for Feb. 6-8 in Peoria, Ill., the show is at the Peoria Civic Center. Advertised as the “Biggest Little Truck Show,” it is put on by the Midwest Trucker Association. Admission is free. Continuing with machinery, the largest farm show is the National Farm Machinery Show. The show is Feb. 12-15 in Louisville, Ky. This is a show to learn about technological advancements in farming. This is the country’s largest indoor farm show. While there is the latest and greatest, there is usually antique equipment on display along with toys as well. There is also the Championship Tractor Pull. For those seeking warmer climes, the Florida Flywheeler Antique Engine & Tractor Show is Feb. 19-22 in Avon Park. This is the 31st annual show, and this year they are featuring Massey Harris and Ferguson. On the grounds, they feature a village with a lot of history, and a big flea market. March seems to be the month for brand tractor clubs to celebrate their winter conventions. The International Harvester Winter Convention is March 6-8 in Fort Worth, Texas. The show is at the Marriott Hotel and Golf Club. There are usually tours and educational presentations as well as an auction associated with this show. The HPOCA Oliver Winter Convention is all about Oliver tractors. The event is March 21-22 in Jeffersonville, Ohio, at Mayer Farm Equipment. The show is hosted by the Hart Parr Oliver collectors. Hours are 9 a.m-3 p.m. The Minneapolis Moline Winter Show will be March 27-29 in Denison, Texas. This year, the show is by the Jim Esbenshade family. They have an extensive Massey-Harris collection, much of which is in the 17,000-square-foot, two-story museum, “Massey World.” At the show, collectors will enjoy vendors, an auction, banquet, and lodging all under one roof. Deemed “Little Dyersville” after the National Farm Toy Show held in November in Dyersville, Iowa, the Sublette Toy Show is March 15-16 in Sublette, Ill. The show is a combination toy and antique tractor show where the town of 500 explodes to thousands. This show is a big fund raiser for the local sports teams and at their banquet they give away FFA scholarships and have a fun speaker. They offer a wonderful Sunday breakfast. Take advantage of these specific events all over the US and Midwest for the antique tractor and ag connections during the winter months. |
