Indiana auction delivers deals on farm and workshop items

ALEXANDRIA, Ind. – On June 11, Shirey Farms Auction Services hosted an online auction featuring household goods, workshop finds and industrial furnishings, all originating from the estate of a local “tinkerer.” In total, 427 lots were offered via HiBid, including outdoor maintenance equipment, workshop machinery, industrial cabinets and plenty of tools.
Several standout items sparked lively competition. The top dollar went to a large scrap wire lot, heavy on copper electrical wire, which sold for $312.50. That was followed by a coil of Delco 4WAG welding cable that brought $215 – a solid buy for anyone maintaining equipment.
Welding and workshop equipment continued to draw good bids, with an untested Lincoln arc welder on wheels selling for $177.50. Also featured among the large shop gear was a Sanborn single-stage air compressor which brought $152.50 and three generators – a 120-volt Contractor JD3000, a 10 horsepower Coleman Powermate, and an 8 horsepower Powermate – that sold for $17.50, $25, and $30 respectively.
Among the lawn and yard maintenance items, a Ferris Chariot dual-drive 52-inch mower powered by a Kawasaki FC540 engine drew attention, reaching a modest $152.50. A spare Kawasaki 17H engine, sold separately for parts, brought $10. A combo lot featuring Craftsman and Hoffco Li’l Hoe mini garden tillers reached $67.50, while an untested Ohio Steel yard vac sold for $37.50.
In the smaller power equipment category, two chainsaws – an Echo 20-inch and a Husqvarna 141 (16-inch) – each sold at $60. A pair of Echo HG-1500 gas-powered hedge trimmers earned $42.50, while two Echo Tanaka leaf blowers came in just under that at $40. Later, a pair of electric Snapper/McCulloch pressure washers with attachments managed just $17.50.
Power shop tools were plentiful, often selling for surprisingly modest bids. Bids hit $52.50 on a Sears 2-horsepower, 150 PSI twin-cylinder paint sprayer. A Craftsman combination sander, featuring a 4-inch belt and 6-inch disc, went for $30, while separate bids of $7.50 snagged an Everett cut-off saw powered by a Craftsman motor and a pair of Central Pneumatic staplers.
Manual tools kept pace, offering a bounty of reliable gear that mostly sold at wallet-friendly prices. The upper-end bidding tended to be for material handling items, like the 6-inch swivel bench vise that sold for $35. A Sears two-ton floor jack followed at $27.50 while a two-ton chain hoist found a buyer at $25. Regular hand tool offerings included a 36-piece mixed combo of wrenches from Craftsman, Fuller, and Williams picked up for $15. A set of eight wire strippers fetched $7.50 while it took only $5 to take home a group of six bubble levels.
This shop also yielded nearly two dozen heavy-duty storage cabinets – great for storage or tool organization. A nine-drawer Craftsman roll-around (26.5-by-18-by-39 inches) led the category at $92.50. A Delco Remy steel locker (24-by-14-by-72 inches) went for $37.50. A blue six-drawer industrial cabinet on wheels (28-by-19-by-34 inches) sold later for $22.50. Also striking $22.50 were three separate lots of 36-by-18-by-37-inch three-tier vented plastic shelving – sturdy enough for most barns or garages.
The industrial furnishings extended to several types of workbenches and shop tables. A tidy $12.50 won a wheeled steel welding table, while a two-tier industrial metal cart (24-by-24-by-24 inches), and two separate work tables (each 72-by-30 inches) with extra tops, each brought in just $2.50 each.
A solid selection of practical household items rounded out the day. A Hannay heavy-duty hose reel brought $52.50. A full-size chest freezer (57-by-27-by-34 inches) in unknown working condition went for $30, and a used King wood stove was picked up for $27.50.
Finally, there were plenty of household smalls that offered good utility. Those included a TurboVent attic vent that found a new home for $17.50, a lot containing two Coleman lanterns (one propane, one battery) snagged for $12.50, and a large group of over two dozen quart canning jars that fetched a mere $5.
