Bussey Brothers presented 600-plus pieces of machinery at auction

Greenville, Ohio – Bussey Brothers Auctioneers conducted its final heavy equipment and agricultural machinery consignment auction Dec. 20-25. The live and webcast event – one of its largest – featured 653 lots of construction and farm equipment, trucks, trailers and construction materials.
A 2023 John Deere S790 combine topped the sale at $325,000. In excellent condition with just 552 separator and 721 engine hours, it offered 36-inch tracks, PRWD, extended wear package, 28-foot auger, power-fold bin extensions, and a 5-speed feederhouse drive.
Three tractors also drew five-figure bids. A 2013 John Deere 9560R with 3,306 hours reached $175,000, featuring five remotes, 36 front suitcase weights, Active Seat, StarFire 3000 SF1, AutoTrac activation, Goodyear LSW 1400/30R46 tires, and amenitied cab. Two brought $165,000: a 2013 John Deere 8360R with 4,524 hours (1,000 since engine overhaul), front and rear duals, IVT, five remotes, quick hitch, 1,000 PTO, 22 front suitcase weights, instructional seat, and amenitied cab; and a 2017 AGCO Challenger MT875E track tractor with 3,549 hours, a 16.8L 590-hp engine, 16F/4R full powershift, 30-inch tracks (65 percent left/35 percent right), 3-point quick hitch, 85-GPM high-flow hydraulics, five remotes, 32 front suitcase weights, instructional seat, and GPS-ready.
Other farm equipment also sold well, led by a 2015 John Deere R4030 sprayer with 2,728 hours that hit $67,000. It featured hydrostatic drive, 90-foot booms, 800-gallon poly tank, boom air purge, seven-section boom with 20-inch nozzle spacing, side fill, section control, AutoTrac unlocked, leather and instructional seats, and amenitied cab. A 2024 John Deere HD40R hinged draper head with 282 hours, lights, and single-point hookup landed $62,500, while a low-acre 2021 35-foot John Deere RD35F Hydraflex draper head with poly finger reel and single-point hookup got $55,500.
Bidders also scored some budget-friendly ag equipment. A 2020 Case 30-foot platform head with full finger auger, poly finger reel, hydraulic fore/aft, and single-point and PTO hookups sold for $5,500. An International 254 tractor in operating condition with 1,378 hours, 3-point arms, 540 PTO, and drawbar brought $2,850. Meanwhile, a New Holland 973 Terrain Tracer 30-foot platform head with hydraulic reel, auger, and multi-point hookup changed hands for just $300.
Construction and heavy equipment performed well, led by a 2021 Komatsu D51PXi-24 dozer/crawler with 5,199 hours, 6-way blade, 28-inch tracks, EROPS, and intelligent machine control, at $86,000. Another $86,000 went to a Caterpillar 318FL hydraulic excavator with 4,970 hours, Cat C4.4 Acert engine, 48-inch bucket, quick coupler, hydraulic thumb, and EROPS. A 2024 Caterpillar 299D3 XE skid steer with just 186 hours came close at $85,000, featuring 16-inch rubber tracks, hydraulic quick attach, HiFlow hydraulics, LED lights and EROPS.
Heavy equipment also saw some value purchases. An operating Komatsu D53A-15 dozer with 8,038 hours, two-way blade, 20-inch steel tracks, and OROPS went for $10,000. A Galion A500E grader with 4,481 hours, 12-foot blade with tilt, mid-mount ripper, and EROPS landed $7,500. A $5,500 offer won a 1980 John Deere 860-B motor scraper with 16-cubic-yard capacity, 2,030 engine hours (14,000 overall), operating but needing some repairs.
Bargains extended to nearly 100 new machines, including mini excavators and skid steers, many selling under $5,000. Highlights included a DigSwift DS-15Pro gas-powered mini excavator with grading blade, rubber tracks, hydraulic thumb, and work light at $1,800; an SDLANCH SDL25 gas-powered, rubber-tracked mini dumper with open station, power dump, and fold-down sides for $2,200; and an AGT SDA-140W mini loader with smooth bucket and OROPS for $1,800.
Momentum continued with semis and commercial trucks, topped by a 2018 Kenworth T880 quint-axle dump truck with 415,664 miles that reached $92,500. It had a Paccar MX-13 485-hp engine paired with an 18-speed Eaton Fuller automatic transmission, along with a 210-foot Bibeau BFL steel bed, double frame, spring-ride suspension, air ride seat, three steerable drop axles, high-lift air tailgate, new 21-foot electric tarp, strobe lights, and new brakes and kingpins.
Mid-range semis included a 2000 Peterbilt 379 sleeper at $55,000. Showing 986,522 miles and a rebuilt motor with roughly 500,000 miles, it featured a 60-Series 500-hp Detroit engine, 373 rear ends, Jost lockable fifth wheel with blocks for dual-line wet kit, aluminum wheels, Michelin fiberglass rear fenders, 22.5 low-profile tires, and numerous new parts. At the lower end, a 2009 Volvo VNL tandem-axle sleeper with 876,499 miles finished at $4,300, while a 2007 Volvo VNL sleeper with 1,633,306 miles brought $4,000.
Attention then shifted to smaller professional trucks and pickups, led by a 2018 Ford F550 4x4 crew cab diesel flatbed at $32,500. With 121,654 miles, it carried a 6.7-liter turbo diesel engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and 9-foot steel flatbed rated at 19,500-pound GVWR. It was equipped with an XL décor package, trailer tow package with power-heated mirrors, a 9.5-foot six-way stainless steel trip-edge Power V snowplow, a 9-foot four-cubic-yard salt spreader with 10.5-hp gas drive and 400-pound vibrator kit, and stainless-steel LED light bar. Bids eventually dipped to $1,400 for a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 4x4 with 231,064 miles and a 5.3-liter gas engine.
Trailers were also plentiful, led by a Mac 39-foot aluminum end-dumper with full liner, air ride, electric tarp, coal, and man doors scoring $43,000. A 1998 Eager Beaver lowboy trailer with 22-foot wood deck, 8-foot top deck, front hydraulics, pony motor, rear ramps, and 22 outriggers bid to $22,000. The auction closed with 16 shipping containers, ranging from $1,700 for a Touax 20-foot variety to $5,750 for a used-once 40-footer, with two side doors and rear double doors, capping a successful event and sales year.
