Four 4-Hers selected to represent Washington County at camp
MARIETTA, Ohio — Jennifer Atkins, Michael Offenberger, Justin Perry and Nicole Pritchett represented Washington County at State 4-H Leadership Camp at 4-H Camp Ohio July 9-14, 2006.

The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation and Nationwide sponsor this program and provide camp scholarships for two 4-H members from each of Ohio’s 88 counties. In Washington County, the 4-H Advisory Committee also provides scholarships for another two 4-H members to attend this leadership development experience.

Jennifer Atkins is the daughter of Don and Judy Atkins of Marietta. She is an eight-year member of 4-H. She is currently in the Oak Grove 4-Fold 4-H Club.

Michael Offenberger is the son of Mike and Mary Offenberger of Marietta. He is in the Bull’s-Eye and Thundering Hoofs 4-H Clubs and is in his tenth year in 4-H.

Justin Perry is the son of Steve and Angela Perry of Lowell. He is a 10-year member of 4-H. He is in the Country Kids 4-H Club.

Nicole Pritchett is the daughter of Zane and Debbie Pritchett of Newport. She is in the Bull’s-Eye and Fur & Feather 4-H Clubs and is in her eighth year in 4-H.

Parkway grain merchandising team places at Ohio FFA State Convention
ROCKFORD, Ohio — What is the last day to put spring 2006 planted crops under FSA loan? What is the demand for soy oil in the current market situation? Who sells RMA’s crop insurance policies to farmers?

Those are some of the questions that FFA members taking the Grain Merchandising test at the Ohio FFA State Convention eariler this year had to answer. The test contained 100 questions ranging from futures, GMO, biofuels, crop insurance and how to read a grain settlement sheet. After the written test the top 10 individuals competed in an interview. The scores were then calculated and the top five individuals and top five teams received banners and plaques.

Parkway FFA’s Felicia Quaintance placed fifth out of 189 individuals overall and the team consisting of Quaintance, Katie King, Elizabeth Smith and Ashley Gamble placed fourth out of 42 teams. Parkway High School is located in Rockford, Ohio.
