WOOSTER, Ohio — The Ohio Multi-Breed sale recently at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster featured a varied offering of Holsteins, Ayrshires, Brown Swiss and Milking Shorthorns.

Because of the combined efforts of the Ohio Holstein Assoc. (OHA) and the Ohio Ayrshire Breeder’s Assoc. (OABA), a great crowd gathered on a beautiful fall day to invest in some elite genetics and some deep-pedigreed milk cows. The high-selling Holstein consignment at $10,000 was a first choice female from 5 IVF Implants due in July, sired by Scientific Destry-ET out of Whitaker Stormatic Rae-ET.

Consigned by Craig Walton and Gene Iager of Pleasant Plain, Ohio, the choice female was purchased by Don Alexander of Wooster.
Selling for $4,600 was Lot 63, Quality-Quest Pistolfire. Sired by Pine-Tree Spearmint, she was just fresh and milking 85 pounds per day. Consigned by Evan Dye, Quality-Quest Holsteins of Beloit, she was purchased by Raygor Farms LLC, Dalton, Ohio.

Lot 61, Quietcove-W Faiths Emmy-ET, a bred heifer sired by Golden-Oaks ST Alexander-ET and due to Sicy Knowledge in December, sold for $4,200 and was purchased by Austin Trbovich of Waynesburg, Ohio. She was consigned by Quietcove-Wapa Farms LLC, Wapakoneta, Ohio.

Seven Holstein consignments sold from $3,000-$3,600 and the average on 54 lots was $2,624, with consignments selling to Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

The Ayrshire sale began with Spring-Run Chancellor Jackie, a three-year-old recently fresh, as the top seller at $2,250. Sired by Palmyra Recruiter’s Chancellor-ET, she was purchased by Ed Gill of Creston, Ohio. Lot 4, Spring-Run Denver Rose, was also the choice of Gill, for $2,050. She had recently calved and was classified at 86 points as a three-year-old. Five outstanding Ayrshire Jackpot calves were presented, with the winning bidder having the opportunity to take his or her choice. They were born from Jan. 5-March 5, 2011, and the sale prices ranged from $1,050-$1,500.

To be eligible for Jackpot prizes, the calves may only be registered to junior breeders anywhere, boy or girl, under 21 years of age as of Jan. 1. Twenty-five percent of the sale price will be put into a jackpot which will be awarded in the form of cash prizes at the third fall sale (three years) following the purchase of the heifers. Prizes will be awarded on the first completed lactation.

All Jackpot heifers are automatically entered in the Ohio National Futurity. The 19 Ayrshires averaged $1,482 and sold into Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Six Brown Swiss consignments averaged $1,758 and sold into Ohio and Pennsylvania. Lot 23, Brook Hollow Masquerade-ET, consigned by Stephanie Yost and Delbert and Heather Yoder of West Salem, Ohio, sold for $2,750, to top the Brown Swiss consignments. Sired by R Hart BC Collection, classified Excellent 90, she was purchased by Robert Himes of Lisbon, Ohio.
