Jan. 18-21: Practical Tools and Solutions for Sustaining Family Farms Conference will be held in Little Rock, Ark. The conference is for serious organic and sustainable producers or those interested in creating more vibrant community food systems. ILLINOIS
Dec. 7-Feb. 22: Workshops have been scheduled to provide Illinois livestock producers the manure management training they need to meet the requirements of the state’s Livestock Management Facilities Act. The workshops will be held in 12 locations throughout the state.  For a full schedule or to register for a workshop, call the University of Illinois Extension at 1-800-345-6087.  The cost is $30.  If more than one employee from the same farm signs-up, each registration after the first will cost $20, a $10 discount.

INDIANA
Jan 4: An Area 11 Indiana Beef Cattle Assoc. meeting will take place at the Eagles Nest in Columbia City, Ind. at 6:30 p.m. RSVP to Ed Farris at 260-358-4826 by Jan. 2. The counties in this area include Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells and Whitley.

Jan. 5: Illiana Vegetable Growers’ School will take place at the Teibel’s Restaurant in Schereville, Ind. The School offers commercial vegetable growers and market farmers the opportunity to learn more about pest management, production practices, variety selection and marketing. Jan. 10: An Area 10 Indiana Beef Cattle Assoc. meeting will take place at the Ag Hall at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds in Goshen, Ind. at 6:30 p.m. CST. RSVP to John Camden at 574-527-2682. Counties in this area include Marshall, Porter, St. Joseph and Starke.

Jan. 17-19: The Indiana Horticulture Congress and Trade Show will take place at the Wyndham Indianapolis West in Indianapolis, Ind. The event includes networking functions and educational workshops dealing with issues such as beginning specialty crop farming, production practices, pest and disease control, marketing, food safety, labor, and production in high tunnels and greenhouses.
