Lawrence Gorman of Knightstown, Ind. has for sale: 12-foot cattle feeders for $30; 14-foot sheep feeders for $30 and 6-foot-by-7-foot hog houses were $47.50, all newly made.

Second Annual Indiana Spring Futurity sale of Angus cattle was at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The Supreme Champion of the show, exhibited by the Major W. A. Rafferty herd of Morocco was a heifer and sold for $880 to the Shady Lane Angus Farm of Huntington, Ind. Topping the sale at $1,000 was a bull consigned by the Horace Hays Angus Farm, Markleville, Ind. and purchased by George Thompson of Anderson, Ind.

A record price for the sale was paid for a Polled Hereford bull at the third Indiana performance-tested bull sale in Rushville, Ind. The bull, owned by Able Acres of Wingate, Ind., brought $1,225.

Eldon Smith, of Sharpsville, Ind. was named the Indiana processing tomato growing champion. His winning overall average yield was 30.8 tons per acre. Smith harvested 228 acres this year. Reserve Champion was Phil Hamilton of Windfall, Ind. with an average yield of 36.2 tons per acre and Dwight Plank of Galveston, Ind. with an average yield of 35.6 tons per acre.

Two prize race horses died in a fire on the property of Ernest Leonard of Edinburg, Ind. in Shelby County. Two additional horses, including a valuable stallion were saved.

The National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky. will be a place to determine the barometer on farmer’s attitude about agriculture and the coming year.

Ford Tractor Operations are experimenting with a fleet of new Ford tractors, powered 100 percent by ethanol, for use to maintain the State of Illinois roads and highways. Eight 4810 model tractors were delivered to the state.

Members of the Black Hawk College-East Campus livestock judging team earned a first-place ranking in the overall team competition at the Illinois Spring Barrow show recently in Springfield, Ill. Winning team members included Brad Bennett of Russiaville; Dan Egger, Markleville; Jeff Hank, Aledo; Doug Ott, Lafayette; and Kyle Underwood, Markleville, Ind.

There is such a glut of soybeans on the market this year, that farmers may find soybean seed inexpensive this year because of the surplus, causing intense competition to sell for less to attract business.
