UT appoints Ag Vice Chancellor for Development

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Larry Arrington, chancellor of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, has announced the appointment of Keith D. Barber as vice chancellor for development for the institute and the University of Tennessee Foundation, beginning July 1.

Barber is currently vice president for external affairs and advancement and chief development officer at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga., where he has oversight for the offices of College Advancement, Sponsored Programs, the ABAC Arts Connection and the ABAC Alumni Assoc.

Having worked at land-grant universities in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, Barber will bring experience that is valuable in carrying out the University of Tennessee’s land-grant mission of education, research and outreach as it relates to development and fundraising activities.

Barber will obtain a doctorate in education leadership later this year from Valdosta State University. He holds a master’s in leadership and higher education and a bachelor’s in criminal justice, both from Appalachian State University. He fills the vacancy left by the retirement of Buddy Mitchell to half-time status. Mitchell led the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture in agricultural development and government relations for 28 years and served three times as interim vice president.

New seedsman joins Seed Consultants 
RICHMOND, Ind. — Seed Consultants, Inc. welcomes Ben Alyea as a new seedsman in eastern Indiana. He holds a bachelor of science degree in agricultural systems management from Purdue University, with a minor in agronomy.

He was raised on a grain farm in Wayne County, Ind., and brings a strong background in agriculture to SCI. Also, Alyea has two years’ experience at a retail cooperative supplying seed, crop protection materials and fertilizer to area farmers.

“Ben comes from a really good family and has a strong farm background. He’s the kind of individual we want to build our company on,” said Chris Jeffries, general manager of SCI.

Lay named CFR for Brock Frankfort operations
MILFORD, Ind. — Justin Lay has been named a customer fulfillment representative for Brock Grain Systems’ grain drying product line, according to Al Walker, customer fulfillment manager for Brock’s Grain Drying Systems product line.

Lay will be responsible for providing inside sales support for established grain dryer dealer and customer accounts from Brock’s Frankfort, Ind., location. He also will assist with coordinating manufacturing production planning at Brock’s Frankfort manufacturing location. He brings seven years of production coordination experience to his new position.
