Ft. Recovery FFA attends 84th State FFA Convention
FORT RECOVERY, Ohio —Thirty-five members, two parent-chaperones, and two advisors of the Ft. Recovery FFA Chapter recently attended the 84th State FFA Convention in Columbus, Ohio.

Over 6,200 members representing 320 FFA Chapters across the state of Ohio were in attendance at the convention. The two-day trip was packed with convention sessions, skills contests, educational tours, and good fun. During the convention sessions, members heard from keynote speakers Brook Gibbs, Jon Petz and Gus Gustafson, as well as state and national officers and other supporters of agricultural education and the FFA. Between convention sessions, members could participate in a career show that featured nearly 50 exhibitors from agriculture, business, and education. Ft. Recovery members participated in the following skills contests: agricultural engineering and poultry judging.

The Ft. Recovery FFA Chapter was fortunate to receive many awards for the great success this past year at the State FFA Convention. Nine members including Zach Bergman, Eric Brackman, Keith Fortkamp, Logan Jutte, Andrea Lennartz, Gusty Link, Rachel Rammel, Jake Vogel and Karissa Will, received the prestigious State FFA Degree, a degree received by only 2 percent of Ohio’s 23,000 members each year.

The Ft. Recovery FFA Chapter brought home one state winning banner for fifth place in poultry judging. The agriculture engineering team, including, Mitch Lennartz, John Link, Alex Stammen, and Jacob Whitacre, competed and placed 10th in the state.

Recovery FFA members attending the convention included Seniors - Zach Bergman, Kurt Fortkamp, Andrea Lennartz and Jake Vogel; Juniors -Eric Brackman, Keith Fortkamp, Maleia Fullenkamp, Logan Jutte, Jessica Kaiser, Gusty Link, Melissa Lochtefeld, Rachel Rammel, Derek Schmitz and Kendra Tobe.; Sophomores - Becky Brockman, Katie Fortkamp, Courtney Gladdish, Reece Grieshop, Jacqui Kremer, Jenna Lennartz, Mitch Lennartz, Grant Muhlenkamp, Nikki Nietfeld, Alex Stammen and Kaleb Timmerman; Freshman - Sam Huelskamp, Debra Link, Neil Link, Nick Link, Diane Post, George Roessner, Ray Siefring, Amy Timmerman.

Local Ohio student wins National FFA Scholarship
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Doug Seger of the Fort Loramie FFA in Fort Loramie, Ohio, received a National FFA Organization Rabo AgriFinance $2,000 scholarship. This scholarship is one of three awarded by Rabo AgriFinance to outstanding high school seniors throughout the United States who have enrolled in an accredited post-secondary educational institution and met other academic, leadership and involvement requirements established by the National FFA Foundation.

Seger has been active in FFA for four years, during which time he attended the national convention, allowing him to see and experience the world beyond his hometown. Seger plans to use the award to attend The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute to study crop management and swine production. Following college, Seger plans to return to the family farm and put what he learned into practice on the farrow-to-finish hog and grain operation.
