Ohio Young Farmers names scholarship winners FRAZEYSBURG, Ohio —The Ohio Young Farmers, Inc. (OYF) recently presented three individuals with scholarships for the upcoming year.
Dick and Joyce Hummel presented Dale Hogue of the TriValley FFA Chapter with the Hummel Scholarship. Dale is the son of Ron and Debra Hogue.
The OYF also presented two state council scholarships. The recipients were Kyle Uhlenhake, son of Gary and Barb Uhlenhake of the Coldwater Chapter, and Brian Elder, son of Dan and Carolyn Elder, who are members of the NW Licking Young Farmers.
Indiana 4-H recognizes new board members INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indiana 4-H Foundation named five new board members during its annual meeting on March 2.
Carol Hegel of Andrews, Ind., formerly with Indiana Farm Bureau; Marcy Kuhn of Anderson, Ind., Pioneer Hi-Bred International; Bert Payne of Pendelton, Ind., Elanco Animal Health; Butch L. Mercer of Indianapolis, Ind., formally with Dow AgroSciences; and John Torr of Indianapolis, Senex Services Corp. have been elected to three-year terms. The new board members will help the Indiana 4-H Foundation on its mission of developing financial resources to support Indiana 4-H Youth Development.
Peggy Naile of Franklin, Ind., with Ice Miller; Nola Gentry of West Lafayette, Ind., Gentry Farms; and Victor A. Schneider of Seymour, Ind., Cummins Inc. were reelected to additional terms on the Board. The Board also welcomed Indiana Extension Educators Association representative Linda Aldridge from Huntington County and Jacob Tobias, Shelbyville, Ind., representing the Indiana 4-H Junior Leader Council to its membership.
Ohio FFA chapter members compete in contests FT. RECOVERY, Ohio — Members of the Ft. Recovery FFA Chapter recently competed in the District Job Interview Contest and the Dairy Judging Contest.
Three members of the Ft. Recovery FFA Chapter recently competed in the Job Interview contest. Senior Lori Osterholt placed second in the senior division, Brad Jutte, a junior, placed fifth in the junior division and Kevin Jutte placed second in the sophomore division.
The purpose of the Job Interview contest is to assist FFA members in the development of oral and written skills that are used during the job interview process.
All three members were required to prepare a one-page resume for use in the mock interview process, complete an employment application and write and prepare a cover letter and follow-up letter. All participants were evaluated on their communications skills, poise and response to questions at the end of the mock interview.
In the State Dairy Judging Contest, Ft. Recovery members Kyle Brockman, Amanda Muhlenkamp, Jared Post, Bruce Schoen, Justin Schoenlein, and Jeremy Siegrist placed third in the state out of 72 teams. Team member Kyle Brockman, son of Gary and Janet Brockman placed sixth out of 253 individuals.
Each student participating in the Dairy Judging Contest was challenged with a pedigree evaluation, sires selection, linear evaluation, and a written test.
Parkway FFA raises money for Children’s Miracle Network ROCKFORD, Ohio — During the Parkway High School FFA week Feb. 26-March 2, FFA members worked to raise nearly $1,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network.
To achieve their goal, the Chapter sponsored an aluminum can drive and awarded classmates who brought in the most cans. Parkway FFA also worked closely with the community to raise funds. The Children’s Miracle Network helps families pay for medical and hospital bills.
Iowa Soybean Assoc. awards $16,000 in scholarships URBANDALE, Iowa — The Iowa Soybean Assoc. announced this year’s winners of the Iowa Soybean Association Ag Scholarship Program on April 16. ISDA will award a $2,000 scholarship to eight Iowa high school seniors who are pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field.
“This year we had more than 100 qualified seniors apply for the ISA Ag Scholarships,” said Curt Sindergrad, ISA scholarship committee chairman. “Having so many qualified applicants make the decision very difficult, as each applicant could very well be a potential winner. The committee goes through each application to find the top candidates, looking particularly at his or her school and community activities as well as future plans.”
The following students were chosen as this year’s winners: William Davenport of Thayer, Iowa, son of Charles Davenport and Jean Davenport; Mary Foell of Schaller, Iowa, daughter of William and Laura Foell; Jacob Hunter of DeWitt, Iowa, son of Charley and Susan Hunter; Elizabeth Juchems of Plainfield, Iowa, daughter of Rick and Jane Juchems; Megan Kregal of Guttenberg, Iowa, daughter of Gary and Darlene Kregal; Cameron Luedtke of Marion, Iowa, son of Kurt and Dee Luedtke; Brad McDonald of Hopkinton, Iowa; Blake Woebbeking of Gladbrook, Iowa son of Duane and Laura Woebbeking.
