BOAH names Bartlett Region 10 area vet INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indiana State Veterinarian Dr. Bret Marsh, DVM, announced the Sept. 10 appointment of Dr. Timothy Bartlett, DVM, as area field veterinarian for the Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH). Bartlett will serve Region 10, which encompasses southwestern Indiana. A 1981 graduate of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, Bartlett has enjoyed a successful career as an equine practitioner. As a well-known horse breeder and judge, he is active in the competitive world of reining horses. He is an approved National Reining Horse Assoc. (NRHA) judge as well as an American Quarter Horse Assoc. (AQHA) Approved Restricted Reining Judge. He has served as a past president of the NRHA, is a lifetime member of the AQHA and is an inductee into the NRHA Hall of Fame. Bartlett is also a member of the American Assoc. of Equine Practitioners, the Indiana Assoc. of Equine Practitioners – where he served as president – and the American Veterinary Medical Assoc. Pike Township teacher named state’s best INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (AP) — A high school math teacher in the Pike Township Schools of Indianapolis has been named the Indiana Teacher of the Year. Daniel Kuznik teaches math to ninth grade students at the Pike High School Freshman Center. State schools superintendent Suellen Reed says the six-year teacher has shown the ability to connect with his students and sets high expectations. Kuznik will receive $1,000 from Indiana Farm Bureau and higher education scholarship opportunities. The runner-up for the 2008 award is Maribeth Smith, who teaches music at Harcourt Elementary School in the Washington Township Schools of Indianapolis. Smith will receive $500 from Indiana Farm Bureau. Alltech advances nine LEXINGTON, Ky. — Alltech, a global leader in animal nutrition, is pleased to announce these appointments: Patrick Becker has been appointed as a chemical engineer. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. Lauren Bennett has joined the company as a marketing assistant. She is a 2007 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a B.A. in Integrated Strategic Communications. Emily Ho has been appointed as a brand manager and also provides support for various projects throughout the marketing department. Prior to joining Alltech, she worked as sales and marketing manager for ExecuTrain of Kentucky, an information technology and professional development training company. Ho received her MBA from the University of Kentucky in 2007. Grant Landon has joined Alltech as marketing coordinator for Kentucky Ale, a product of Alltech’s Lexington Brewing Company. He began at Alltech as a temporary employee of the company’s corporate media division in February 2007 and accepted the position with Kentucky Ale in June. Prior to joining Alltech, Landon worked as marketing coordinator for the Downtown Lexington Corporation in Lexington. Brad Miller has joined Alltech as a quality assurance lab technician. A native of Greenup, Ky., Miller has a B.S. in chemistry. Kurt Peterson has been appointed as a member of Alltech’s sales team and will be based in its Wisconsin office. Before joining Alltech, Peterson worked for the Mid-County Cooperative in northern Wisconsin. Joe Sparrow has been appointed territory sales manager for Kentucky. He received his bachelor’s degree in dairy science with a minor in agricultural economics from Virginia Tech, where he was a member of the top nationally ranked dairy judging team. Sparrow is a native of Owenton, Ky. Adam Stoll has joined Alltech South Dakota as a member of the company’s sales force. He is a 2007 graduate of South Dakota State University with a B.S. in animal science. Jake Tincher has been appointed as a member of Alltech’s sales team and is based out of the company’s South Dakota office. Prior to joining Alltech, he worked at Jockey Club Information Systems, Inc. and Itecs Innovative Technologies, Inc. He received a B.S. in biology from Harding University and a Master of Agricultural Business from Texas A&M University. Farm Credit announces the promotion of two leaders LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Farm Credit Services of Mid-America, a $12 billion ag lending cooperative with 90-year roots serving farmers and rural residents throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee, has announced the promotion of two senior leaders. Tom Schlenker of Wapakoneta, Ohio, has been named executive vice president of financial services. His responsibilities include providing leadership to strategic planning and organizing and directing of the business development, sales and marketing functions for the association’s four-state territory. Dick Poe of Crestwood, Ky., is assuming Schlenker’s former position of senior vice president of financial services and will oversee management and sales of more than 40 FCS offices throughout Ohio and Indiana. Both senior leaders will be located in the association’s headquarters in Louisville. Schlenker has been with Farm Credit Services more than 30 years and has served in various leadership roles for the past 25. He holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Ohio State University in agricultural economics and marketing. He also holds leadership positions with the Ohio Ag Council and the Mid-America Council of Cooperatives. Poe began his employment with Farm Credit in 1982 as a loan officer in Washington Court House, Ohio. Over the last 25 years, he has held a number of sales and management positions, most recently serving as vice president of financial services for the central Kentucky sales region. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Kentucky. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Commercial Banking School of the South at Louisiana State University. Governor awards citation to Animal Emergency Coordinator NASHVILLE, Tenn. — State animal emergency coordinator and veterinarian Dr. Robert “Bob” Linnabary was recently recognized for his contributions to animal care emergency planning and preparedness by the Tennessee Office of Homeland Security (OHS). Linnabary was awarded an honorary commission as “Colonel, Aide de Camp” signed by Gov. Phil Bredesen and presented by Rick Shipkowski, deputy director of OHS. He was presented the citation during a joint state and federal animal health officials meeting in Nashville. A staff veterinarian with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Linnabary was recognized for helping develop the state’s emergency plan for animal care. Known as Emergency Support Function (ESF) 16, the plan is now in use by the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and guides the state’s response and care of all animal species in the event of a natural or manmade disaster. He was also instrumental in the development of a statewide animal emergency worker credentialing system, which to date has trained more than 1,200 volunteers for on-call emergency duty. The system Linnabary helped establish has also served as a model for emergency preparedness in other states. Linnabary has 30 years of emergency experience and has worked several well-known disasters and emergencies, including hurricanes Andrew, Floyd and Katrina. He also served as a foreign animal disease consultant during both the 2001 outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the United Kingdom and the 2002 outbreak of Exotic Newcastle Disease in poultry in the southwestern United States.
