Porter County Fair Board
seeks youth applicants

VALPARISO, Ind. — The Porter County Agricultural Society, also known as the Porter County Fair Board, first brought youth to their boardroom in 2005.</p><p>
The youth who are selected to serve have the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the details involved in hosting a fair. The experience also allows young people to interact with members of the agricultural society and share a youth perspective as the groups work together to plan and host the Porter County Fair.</p><p>
Currently, the Porter County Agricultural Society is recruiting applicants for the year ahead. Applications are welcomed from Porter County residents aged 16 to 25, who have an interest in getting involved with a community-oriented group. No previous 4-H or fair experience is required. Those selected to serve as Junior Fair Board members will have the opportunity to share ideas and provide input at meetings of the Porter County Agricultural Society. Members will also actively participate with Porter County Agricultural Society members as they plan and host the 2008 Porter County Fair.</p><p>

Indiana 4-H Dairy Team
competes at the NAILE</p><p>

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Indiana All-State 4-H Dairy Judging Team recently competed at the North American International Livestock Exposition Dairy Youth Invitational Judging Contest in Louisville, Ky. </p><p>
Team members representing Indiana at the contest were Eli Coleman, Boone County, Joey Gardener, Elkhart County, Adam Nicodemus, Whitley County, and Stephanie Trenshaw, Elkhart County. 20 teams participated in the contest. Indiana finished 2nd overall. The team was 8th in Ayrshires, 2nd in Brown Swiss, 5th in Guernseys, 4th in Holsteins, 6th in Jerseys and 4th in oral reasons.
Individually Adam Nicodemus was 2nd high individual overall and 2nd in Brown Swiss, and 10th in Guernseys. Joey Gardener was 9th in oral reasons and 8th in Ayrshires. Eli Coleman was 10th in Jerseys.</p><p>
The team was sponsored by NorthStar Cooperative, Indiana Professional Dairy Producers, and Milk Promotion Services of Indiana. </p><p>
The main goal for an all-state team is to provide educational opportunities for all of Indiana’s 4-H members to participate in dairy judging, regardless of where they live and to reward those members who achieve excellence. </p><p>
The team was coached by Steve Hendress, Purdue University and Kelly Easterday, Warsaw, Ind.</p><p>
