Ft. Recovery FFA participates in Parlia Procedure Contest
FT. RECOVERY, Ohio — Recently, the Ft. Recovery FFA senior parliamentary procedure team placed 2nd in the sub-district contest at Fort Recovery High School and 4th in the district contest at Minster High School.</p><p>
The sub-district competition included five other area FFA Chapters, which were Coldwater, Minster, New Bremen, St. Henry and St. Marys. The parliamentary procedure team had to demonstrate their ability to participate effectively in a business meeting using proper parliamentary law.</p><p>
Senior parliamentary procedure team members included Lindsey Fortkamp, Chris Gehret, Stephanie Heitkamp, Tyler Huelskamp, Kelly Knapke, Beverly Lennartz, Amanda Muhlenkamp, Megan Sudhoff, Kelly Thien and Britany Wendel. The two junior parliamentary procedure teams, which consisted of first-year FFA members, also demonstrated their abilities to conduct a meeting and both received Gold ratings at the sub-district contest. Junior parliamentary procedure team A members included Michelle Brackman, Laura Braun, Riggs Florence, Caitlin Gehret, Jessica Link, Holly Thien, Gena Wendel and Stacy Will. Junior team B members included Nathan Fortkamp, Craig Fullenkamp, Ryan Guggenbiller, Jessica Heitkamp, Nichole Kaiser, Emily Schoenlein, Alison Tobe and Haley Wilson.</p><p>
Ohio FFA members earn top honors at National Convention</p><p>
PETTISVILLE, Ohio — The National FFA Organization represents nearly half a million members nationwide, with Ohio ranking 6th in total membership. Also, Ohio had the 3rd highest number of American FFA Degree recipients, the highest honor for a FFA member to achieve. 271 of the 3,168 degrees awarded during the National FFA Convention in late November were from Ohio with six of them from Henry County.</p><p>
Two of those American FFA Degree recipients were from Patrick Henry: Amanda Hahn and Jamie Rader. Hahn and Rader mark only the second and third American FFA Degree recipients ever from Patrick Henry. Rader’s father, Roger, was the first in 1977.</p><p>
Hahn’s Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) consisted of 40 dairy goats and job placement at The Ohio State University (OSU) Extension office in Henry County. While in high school, Hahn was extremely active in the FFA. She served as chapter reporter and vice-president and was also chairman of the annual chicken BBQ committee. She participated in many CDEs, from parliamentary procedure and public speaking to nursery/landscape and general livestock judging. </p><p>
Rader’s SAE consisted of beef production, production of various crops and job placement. While in high school, Rader served as chapter sentinel and president. As president, he led the parliamentary procedure team to a first-ever first place finish in the county parliamentary procedure contest. Jamie is currently attending OSU - Agricultural Technical Institute majoring in livestock science and business management.</p><p>
Kim Bergstedt of Liberty Center FFA served as chapter reporter, student advisor, treasurer and vice president and was a member of the Ohio FFA Choir. Bergstedt’s SAE consisted of swine production. She was active in creed speaking, parliamentary procedure and attended state and national conventions. </p><p>
Shane Poulson of Pettisville FFA and a Ridgeville Township resident, served as the chapter student advisor and attended state and national conventions. He participated in dairy judging, livestock judging and parliamentary procedure. Poulson participated in state and National Agriscience fairs with research projects dealing with swine evaluation. His job placement consisted of working at Moyer Swine Genetics. Shane won the state FFA Swine Placement Proficiency and showed the 2005 Grand Champion Market Barrow at the Ohio State Fair. </p><p>
Jordan Beck of Pettisville FFA served as chapter treasurer and president and attended state and national conventions. He participated in dairy judging, livestock judging, soils and parliamentary procedure. Beck’s job placement consisted of Seaway Scaffolding, Archbold Elevator and the OSU Meat Lab. Jordan was 1st runner up in food processing. He is currently majoring in animal science at OSU and working at the OSU Sheep & Beef Barns and the Meat Lab.</p><p>
Preceding Poulson and Beck in earning their degrees were their sisters, Jessie and Whitney who both earned their degrees in 2005.
Darin King of Archbold FFA and a Ridgeville Township resident served as chapter secretary and president. His job placement included Rupp Seeds, where he worked over 400 hours pollinating crops, maintaining seed plots, planting crops, measuring growth, and inventorying pollination. His other SAE’s include raising feeder calves, corn and soybeans. </p><p>
King is a sophomore at Tri-State majoring in mechanical engineering. He is planning to use his skills in the agricultural field. King’s sister, Gina, received her degree last year.</p><p>
Logan Wyse of the Archbold FFA, served as the Student Advisor for the chapter his senior year and has been honored with awards at the state and national Conventions. </p><p>
He has been on the poultry judging team, soils judging team and the parliamentary procedure team. Wyse’s job placement included his work at Wyse Electric Motor Repair in Archbold, Ohio. In 2005, Wyse won the Agriculture Mechanics Energy Systems Maintenance and Repair Proficiency award at state contest and was a
national finalist. As a finalist he won a trip to Costa Rica for ten days in the summer of 2006. Currently, Wyse is attending University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima, studying in the field of high performance automobiles.</p><p>
