|
Ohio’s 8th Congressional District is one of the largest agricultural districts in the Buckeye State. It boasts more than 5,400 farms growing grains, produce and livestock on nearly 1 million acres. Every year for the past 17 years, U.S. Rep. John Boehner (R-Piqua, Ohio) has hosted Farm Forum for those with an interest in agriculture. This forum provides an arena where they can discuss trends and topics, and exchange ideas with others in similar fields. This year’s keynote speaker is former U.S. Rep. Cal Dooley (D-Calif.), now president and CEO of the Grocery Manufacturer’s Assoc. Dooley served seven terms in the U.S. House, representing California’s 7th District.
He served on the House Agriculture Committee and was ranking member of the agriculture subcommittee on department operations, oversight, nutrition and forestry. Dooley is a fourth-generation farmer and partner in Dooley Farms, growing cotton, alfalfa and walnuts in California’s San Joaquin Valley.
Every year, as part of the exchange of information there is a panel of distinguished guests. The panelists this year are: Tom Menke, president of Menke Consulting; Bob Peterson, president of the Ohio Farm Bureau; and Carl Zulauf, the Francis B. McCormick professor of agriculture and marketing policy at The Ohio State University.
Farm Forum will be Saturday, March 1 at Edison Community College located at 1973 Edison Drive in Piqua, Ohio. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. This free program begins at 10 a.m.
To RSVP, go to: http://Boehner.house.gov/farmforum or call 1-800-582-1001. The event is open to anyone interested in agriculture issues.
The views and opinions expressed in this column are those of the author and not necessarily those of Farm World. |
