WOOSTER, Ohio — Wayne County Farm Bureau and The Ohio State University Extension of Wayne County have teamed to sponsor a day-long workshop on best livestock management practices on March 5 at Fisher Auditorium on the Wooster campus of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center.<br>

The purpose of the workshop is to inform producers, their employees, students, industry and extension professionals about best management practices and biosecurity on livestock operations, according to Greg Sauter, chairman of the workshop planning committee.<br>

The doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for registration, and the meeting will get underway at 9 a.m. with a presentation on Biosecurity on Livestock Operations by Dr. Mo Saif, head of the Food Animal Health Research Program at the OARDC in Wooster. This will be followed with a presentation on Veterinary Procedures from a Common Sense Approach by Juliette Hanson, animal care manager for the Food Animal Health Research Program at the OARDC.<br>

Naomi Botheras, animal welfare extension specialist with The Ohio State University’s Department of Animal Science, will discuss animal handling procedures and animal welfare issues. Joe Cornely, director of communications with the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation will be the featured speaker at the lunch provided by the Wayne County Farm Bureau. He will discuss media relations.<br>

The workshop will conclude with presentations on Handling Livestock Mortality by Harold Keener, associate chairman and professor in food, agriculture and biological engineering; and Animal Housing and Ventilation by Mike Brugger, associate professor in food, agriculture and biological engineering.
There is no cost for the conference; however, registrations are required for lunch. Registrations may be made with Wayne County Farm Bureau at 330-263-7456 by March 1.
