Amanda-Clearcreek attends FFA camp

AMANDA, Ohio — For most students, summer means cookouts, bonfires, vacations, and hanging out with friends. For forty-one Amanda-Clearcreek FFA members summer meant fun, friends, leadership, gun ranges, archery range, and many different activities. From July 14-18, Amanda-Clearcreek FFA members attended the 5th session of summer FFA Camp.

A few FFA members were kind enough to share about their experiences at camp. When asked about FFA Camp Sophomore Becca Bentz said, “It was fun” and she also enjoyed meeting a lot of new people. Junior Scott Loudermilk commented about his experiences at FFA Camp  “ I met a lot of new people, and I did a lot of different activities, it’s something you will never forget.” 

Justin Strittmatter a second year FFA member said, “It was fun, it was awesome, loads of fun, everyone should at least go to it once.”
Some of the activities FFA members participated in at camp were: motor boating, canoeing, trap shooting, archery, rifle range, swimming, fishing, kayaking, glow in the dark field games, team building course, dances, sports tournaments, horseshoes, corn hole, ping-pong, and more. FFA camp is located on Leeville Lake near Carrollton, Ohio.

Many FFA members plan on going to FFA Camp next summer after hearing about the fun other members had during FFA Camp. Amanda-Clearcreek members who attended were Morgan Baldwin, Becca Bentz, C.J. Broaddus, Steven Brumfield, Hannah Chenetski, Austin Conte, Dustin Cox, Cynthia Cruit, Garren Dilley, Bo Finney, Pat Foley, Tyler Genders, Josh Hampshire, Travis Hart, Curtis Hayes, Erin Hiestand, Mike Hite, Chancey Holbrook, Andrea Hollett, Cheyenne Jepsen, Bridgitte Kyser, Kendra Lama, Matt Lamb, Scott Loudermilk, C.J. Mets, Aaron Miller, Shala O’Hare, Brittany Pinkstock, Dillon Pinkstock, Teran Pinkstock, Sarah Rogers, David Sams, Kelsie Sharp, Shelby Sizemore, Ike Sowers, Chris Sparkman, Ray Spence, J.D. Stover, Just Strittmater and Colleen Trapp.

Miami East soils team places at district
CASSTOWN, Ohio — On Wednesday, Sept. 24th, members of the Miami East FFA Chapter competed in the District 5 Soils Judging Contest in Auglaize County. Auglaize County Soil and Water Conservation District coordinated the event.

The Urban Soils team consisted of Logan Pyers, Corey Rindler, Tate Church, Josie Walters, Brooke Combs, Shannon Wargo and Chris Heiss. The team placed third out of 21 teams and qualified for state competition.  Pyers placed 9th, Church 10th, and Rindler 12th out of 120 individuals. The top four placing individuals from Miami East will compete at the State FFA Soils Judging Contest on October 11th.

The Rural Soils team consisted of David Long, Jake Eidemiller, Josh Furrow, Morgan Plantz, Sheena Roach, and Morgan Howard. The team placed 11th out of 24 teams. Long was the high individual from Miami East placing 29th out of more than 175 individuals.The contest consisted of evaluating four soils pit for slope, erosion, drainage, depth, and soil texture. Also, the contestants took a written test and answered questions from the Soil Survey of Auglaize County.
