Amanda-Clearcreek FFA members
successful in district contests
AMANDA, Ohio — On January 24, the Amanda-Clearcreek FFA Chapter sent four members to participate in the District 7 Ag Sales Contest at Lancaster High School. The team members include: D.J. Hopkins, Ashley Lamb, Brittany Mason and Shaelyn Iles.
These members had to make a display board of a product and present that product to a judge, trying to get the judge to buy it. The members also had to take a test focusing on agricultural sales. The team also had to do a customer relations activity. The team placed second in the district, which qualified them for the state contest on March 4 at Tolles Technical High School. They placed 18th in the state as a team.
Also, on January 24, two members from the chapter participated in the District 7 Job Interview Contest. In this contest, members had to send in a résumé and an introduction letter. They then had to participate in a mock interview and send in a thank you letter once the interview was completed.
Members participating in this contest were Crystal Covell and Madison Fausnaugh. Covell placed fourth in the junior/senior category and Fausnaugh placed third in the freshman/sophomore category.
Area youth win NorthStar
Cooperative Scholarship
LANSING, Mich. — Winners of the 2006 NorthStar Cooperative, Inc. Scholarship were recently announced. Greta Koebel of Three Oaks, Mich.; Marc Shambeau of Two Rivers, Wis. and Bryce Slavik of Ashley, Mich. are all recipients of $500 scholarships for continuing their education in the field of agriculture.
A freshman at Michigan State University studying Agri-business Management, Koebel won the 2005 Judi Collinsworth Award at World Dairy Expo. She is an active member of the Michigan Junior Holstein Association and the MSU Dairy Club. Koebel’s parents are Terry and Jennie Koebel.
Shambeau is completing his senior year at Manitowoc Lutheran High School where he maintains a 4.0 GPA. Upon graduation, Shambeau plans to attend college to pursue a degree in education or engineering. Shambeau’s parents are Larry and Elise Shambeau.
A sophomore at Michigan State University, Slavik is majoring in Veterinary Medicine. At MSU, Slavik is a member of the MSU Navigators, College of Veterinary Medicine Food Animal Club and the Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge Team. Slavik is the son of Jim and Doreen Slavik.

Parkway FFA celebrated FFA week
with several in-school activities
ROCKFORD, Ohio — The Parkway FFA celebrated FFA week, February 21-24, with daily activities.
The week began with Duct Tape Day, where students dressed up in duct tape outfits. The chapter also sponsored the Ag Olympics, which included Milk the Cow and a Milk Chugging Contest. Wednesday was Farmer Day and included a bale toss competition. Thursday was Carhartt Day, Truck Drive-In Day and the Teacher Appreciation Breakfast. Friday’s festivities included Tractor Drive-In and FFA Apparel Day.
The chapter also sponsored a motivational speaker, Sam Glenn during the week. All of the proceeds from FFA week went to Children’s Medical Hospital. |
