Thanksgiving in the night sky

Verses from Mama
By Sandra Sheridan

Isaiah 40:26 “Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.” (NIV)
Recently while taking my evening walk, I looked at the night sky and marveled at the huge harvest moon. The moonbeams were so bright that they illuminated the road I traveled, so I turned off my own portable lamp. Looking up I considered the millions of distant stars and wondered at the smallness of man in comparison to the whole realm of creation.
The prophet Isaiah spoke of our powerful Creator in poetic terms, saying He sits enthroned above the circle of the Earth filled with people like grasshoppers. This awesome God stretches out the heavens like a canopy; like a tent to live in.
Even the most significant of earthly kings are reduced to nothing when up against the Almighty. He is the One who gives them power, and with a puff of His breath He blows them away like an autumn leaf in a windstorm.
There is no one equal to the Holy One. When we gaze at the starry sky and wonder at its breathtaking beauty, we see only a fraction of the heavenly bodies. Yet the Creator has given each point of light a name. Because of His great power not one of them is missing.
Thankfulness filled me as I considered the truth that, despite my smallness compared to the universe, the Almighty still cares for me. He sees me. He hears for me. And He responds to my prayers for help.
Keep this encouraging truth in mind when you feel small and insignificant. Take a stroll on a clear evening. Gaze up at the night sky and remember that the Creator and Sustainer of this huge world loves you. And that’s something to be thankful for.
