BUFFALO, Ky. – Lewis Auction Co., of Elizabethtown, Ky., held an online-only farm equipment auction for Nelson Farms, running April 21 through May 9.
Held on HiBid.com, there were 146 lots containing tractors, trucks, farm machinery, livestock equipment, and numerous lots of power and hand tools. The auction featured a soft close allowing bidders in the final two minutes to extend bidding.
Receiving the auction’s highest bid of $38,100 was a Kubota M108S diesel 4WD tractor with a Kubota LA1403 front loader. The tractor had 2,589 hours, had a new fuel tank and battery, and was listed in running and operating condition.
Two other tractors were offered; each picked up four-figure winning bids. A Ford 6640 Powerstar S diesel with 2,538 hours, a new battery, and in running and operating condition, sold for $8,100. Close behind, hitting $7.500, was a Ford 4630 turbo diesel tractor. It was also in running/operating condition and had 3,341 hours.
Trucks included a 1996 Ford F series diesel logging truck with 276,000 miles that sold for $5,170. A 2004 Chevy Silverado LS pickup truck with a 5.3-liter engine and 167,000 miles made it to $4,300.
As the auction’s title implied, farm and agricultural equipment filled many of the lots. Among the machinery, taking the auction’s second-place bid of $12,975, was a barn-kept New Holland Roll-Belt 560 hay roller with remote. Other machinery picking up solid bids was a KUHN Speedrake SR 110, noted as barn-kept during the off-season. It went for $5,850. A Kubota DM 1024 8-foot disc mower, also barn-kept, scored $3,801.
For the mechanic was a lot containing a pair of non-working John Deere 350-C Crawler bulldozers. One had a bad motor; the other had a bad transmission. The winning bidder, at $2,600, could cobble them together into one working unit.
Livestock equipment included three hay rings selling from a low of $26.50 to a high of $315. Three Tarter metal feed troughs, all 10 feet long, sold from $146.65 to $151.65.
Approximately four-dozen lots of hand and power tools were available. Among the power tools was an SMC air compressor, in working condition, that sold for a modest $31.75. An untested bench grinder that needed its safety plate attached was picked up for $13.50.
Hand tools were typically offered as mixed lots. A toolbox filled primarily with sockets was grabbed for $24.50. Right behind, a nice box-lot of mixed tools with everything from hammers to wrenches went home for $22.50.
Special mention goes to 16 lots of chainsaws and accessories. Three Husqvarna saws were offered, hitting three-figure winning bids. A Rancher model 480 with good compression reached $300; a model 550XP hit $285 while a model 550 went for $270. The saws were followed by various lots containing blade chains, which sold in the mid-to-high $20 range. Three separate box lots of used chains sold for less than $10 each.
Pickup for this auction was on site, with no delivery offered. However, lifting equipment was available on the day of pickup to assist with loading. There was a 12 percent buyer’s premium added to high bids and there was a 3 percent surcharge for buyers using a credit card.
