UK Pest Management Field Day is planned for June 25

PRINCETON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky will host a Pest Management Field Day on June 25 at the UK Research and Education Center at Princeton. The event – tailored for grain producers, crop advisers and industry representatives – offers a unique opportunity to learn the latest research and strategies in integrated pest management.
Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment Extension and research experts will cover weed control in corn and soybean production. Insect and disease management strategies will also be covered.
“This year’s Pest Management Field Day will feature a guided tour of over 125 different weed management program options in corn and soybean, in addition to receiving the information on the latest innovative field crop disease and insect pest management research,” said Travis Legleiter, Extension weed science specialist in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences.
CDT, participants will visit UKREC research plots to explore the research behind Martin-Gatton CAFE’s Integrated Pest Management recommendations in Kentucky grain crops.
Kiersten Wise, professor and Extension specialist in the Department of Plant Pathology, emphasized the many benefits of attending the field day.
“Our pest management specialists have the latest research results and tools to share with farmers to help minimize the impact of pest threats and maximize return on investment,” Wise said. “This field day is a great opportunity to see research in the field and interact with our specialists to get your pest management questions answered.”
In addition to Legleiter and Wise, participants will receive research updates from Extension plant pathology specialist Carl Bradley and entomology specialist Felipe Batista.
The field day activities will conclude midday with a complimentary lunch. Continuing education units for Certified Crop Advisers include three CEUs for pest management, and Kentucky pesticide applicators will receive two CEUs for Category 1A and one CEU for Category 10.
Sign-in will open at 8 a.m. inside the UKREC Siemer Milling Company Conference Center, 348 University Dr. in Princeton. Appropriate attire for a summer field tour is encouraged.
Interested participants are encouraged to register online by June 18 or contact Jason Travis at jason.travis@uky.edu or 270) 365-7541, ext. 22569.
