Spaulding Outdoors By Jack Spaulding More than 300 archery and bow hunting brands, including Easton Archery, Bear Archery, TenPoint Crossbows and Bowtech, have confirmed they will exhibit at ATA Show Week, Jan. 7-10, 2027, in Indianapolis, with more joining every week. Barnett Crossbows, Elite Archery, FeraDyne Outdoors, Martin Archery, Morrell Targets, PSE Archery, Rinehart Targets and Xpedition Archery are among the hundreds of brands exhibiting. From bows and crossbows to arrows, broadheads, sights, releases, targets, accessories and hunting gear, the lineup represents the full range of the archery and bowhunting industry. Established manufacturers, growing brands and emerging companies will gather in one place, giving attendees the opportunity to discover new products, strengthen relationships and meet the people shaping the industry’s future. The ATA Trade Show, Jan. 7-8, brings manufacturers and qualified buyers together to see new brands, demo the year’s newest products, write orders and take advantage of show-only buying opportunities. Whether reconnecting with long-time suppliers or exploring new product lines, retailers can accomplish in two days what might otherwise take months to coordinate. “There’s tremendous value in bringing this much of the industry together in one place,” Jeff Poole, president and CEO of the Archery Trade Association, said. “For retailers, it’s a chance to connect directly with the companies they do business with and discover what’s next. For manufacturers, it’s a chance to strengthen relationships, introduce products and get in front of the people who influence purchasing decisions. These connections are important to the success and continued growth of our industry.” Show week doesn’t end when the trade-only portion does. On Jan. 9-10, the Archery & Bowhunting Supershow opens to the public. Thousands of bow hunters, recreational and competitive archers, and outdoor enthusiasts will walk the same show floor retailers walked just a day earlier. They can meet the same brands, explore the latest equipment and experience the industry in a way they can’t anywhere else. With major archery competitions also running throughout the week, ATA Show Week will bring together everyone from manufacturers and retailers to competitive archers and lifelong bow hunters. Companies not yet exhibiting may still join the lineup and get in front of the thousands of buyers, media members and consumers who will attend over the four days. ATA Show Week is at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, bringing together the archery and bowhunting industry for four days of business, new products, competition and connection. • Jan. 7-8: ATA Trade Show • Jan. 8: S3DA Indoor Open • Jan. 8-10: NFAA Rushmore Rumble/Hyundai Indoor World Series 500 • Jan. 9-10: Archery & Bowhunting Supershow Registration for the 2027 ATA Trade Show and ticket sales for the Archery & Bowhunting Supershow are open. Looking Back It’s amazing how little things can jog a memory of years ago. Sights, textures and smells can quickly paint vivid pictures of past encounters. I had such a visual encounter a few weeks ago. Shopping with my wife, I had an experience bringing back wonderful memories of long ago. Granted, 68 years is a long time for a run down memory lane, but it happened in Kroger with just a glance of a package of small boxes of Sunkist Raisins. Years ago, way before any prepackaged trail mix, Sunkist Raisins were my go to trail snack when exploring the woods and waters around Moscow. Mom would buy them and keep them on hand. For an 8-year-old boy, having survival food was a necessity, and a box of Sunkist Raisins filled the bill. The snack was a great addition to the unneeded but reassuring warmth of a cheery little campfire. Life was good when there was a box of sweet, shriveled fruit of the vine to fall back on to bolster your strength.
DNR to stock rainbow trout The Indiana Department of Natural Resources will stock 755 rainbow trout across three locations in Fort Wayne and Huntington this fall, increasing options for anglers to enjoy trout fishing in the region. “The fall stocking program provides an accessible, family friendly opportunity for people to enjoy the excitement of fishing in community settings,” said Matthew Linn, Indiana DNR’s fisheries research biologist. There will be 315 trout stocked at Shoaff Park Pond in Shoaff Park, located on Fort Wayne’s northeast side at 6401 St. Joe Road. Spy Run Creek will receive 215 trout where it enters Franke Parke, across the parking lot from the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo at 3411 Sherman Boulevard. Memorial Park, west of downtown Huntington at 1200 West Park Drive, will be stocked with 225 trout in its north pond only. The stocked fish will average 13 to 15 inches in length and are sourced from Curtis Creek Trout Rearing Station. Stocking was expected to be completed by Oct. 23, and fishing at these locations began then. All anglers age 18 and older must have a valid Indiana fishing license and trout stamp, which can be purchased at GoOutdoorsIN.com or in the GoOutdoorsIN app. The daily harvest limit is five trout per angler.
