Kentucky cattle farm donates to Angus Foundation package

MAYS LICK, Ky. – The Angus Foundation Heifer Package is an annual donation program that combines a high-quality Angus heifer with supporting services and is sold at the National Angus Bull Sale during Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City. Proceeds from the sale directly fund the Angus Foundation’s mission of supporting educational initiatives for new and existing Angus producers, providing youth opportunities in cattle breeding and livestock science, and funding research projects that improve the breed’s genetics, productivity and sustainability.
This year, Boyd Beef Cattle, of Mays Lick, Ky., has been selected to donate the 2027 Angus Foundation Heifer Package. The package is Boyd Abigail 6093, a March 2026-born Angus cow. She will be sold as the lead-off lot at the Jan. 8, 2027, sale during the Cattlemen’s Congress.
Owned and operated by Charlie and Paula Boyd and their sons, Blake and Logan, Boyd Beef Cattle traces its roots to 1893. Now in its fourth generation, the operation has become recognized for producing balanced Angus genetics that combine phenotype, performance and maternal function.
“There is really no guesswork,” Charlie Boyd said. “She comes from a proven cow family that has done exactly what we ask cattle to do generation after generation. I think she’s a rock-solid foundation for the buyer. She’ll move the needle for the next program.”
Each year, a donor ranch (such as Boyd Beef Cattle) selects a proven, genetically sound Angus heifer to be the “package” donor. Boyd Abigail 6093 is the product of five generations of proven maternal genetics from the highly influential Abigail cow family. Her dam, Boyd Abigail 3022, continues the legacy of Boyd Abigail 0001, a cow still in production at 16 years old.
“The Boyd family’s reputation for producing functional, maternally focused cattle and their long-standing commitment to the Angus breed reflects the very values the Foundation seeks to promote,” said Jaclyn Boester, Angus Foundation executive director. “The Boyd family is helping create opportunities that will strengthen the breed for generations to come.”
