Giant Foot-Long Bang-Up Burger
Cheer the Fourth with giant foot-long burgers

Ingredients:
1 red onion, not too large 3/4 cup Italian salad dressing 1 1/2 teaspoons prepared mustard 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley 3/4 to 1 pound lean ground beef 1 teaspoon black pepper 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce 1 loaf Italian or French bread, sliced lengthways to make the bun 4 slices white American cheese, sliced corner to corner into triangles Jalapeno slices (optional)

Instructions:
Make thin slices of the onion and pull apart into rings. Mix Italian dressing, mustard and chopped parsley. Drop the onion rings into this and let soak. In a bowl, combine the hamburger, pepper, garlic salt and Worcestershire sauce. Be sure the seasonings are well-distributed throughout the meat. Remove the onion rings from the dressing and spread dressing on the bottom bun. Spread the seasoned hamburger over the bottom bun and put under the broiler in your oven. When it’s about done, put the top half of the bun under the broiler to toast it a little. Remove the burger from broiler and place the cheese pieces on it. Return to the broiler to melt the cheese. Remove from oven, arrange the marinated onion rings over the melted cheese, put the top on and there’s your special sandwich. It will make any occasion memorable by itself – but put some jalapeno slices on the sandwich, and the fireworks will start before dark.
