Instructions:
Use a nice heavy saucepot to prepare this dish. Fry the bacon over low heat. When it’s letting down grease, add the chopped onions and cayenne pepper. Stir and continue sautéing until the onions become translucent.
Stir in the brown sugar, the pork and beans and the shot of Jack Daniels. Bring to a nice simmer and stir well. Continue simmering for 15 minutes so everything in the pot gets nice and hot.
You can add cut-up hot dogs to this pot of beans at the same time you add the Jack Daniels if you’d like to have a meal in a pot. Of course, these make a great side dish to serve with barbecued chicken, as well.
I’ll bet the four burglars don’t get beans that are this good while they’re in the slammer. The Neighborhood Watch system worked well in this instance, and they were arrested within a few minutes.
It’s also a sure bet that they’ll get to spend some time in the “gray bar hotel.” Mrs. Basenski’s husband is actually Judge David Basenski, in the Lorain County Court system, so the odds are not good for the burglars being able to go outside to hunt Easter eggs this spring.
