Ex-Republican is now supporting Obama
I grew up as a rural Republican with a strong love for my family, my community, and my United States of America. Through the years I have attempted to take every opportunity offered me to make things better.

Agriculture leaders led a bipartisan effort to give agriculture and rural America a chance to help reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy. We collectively worked for over 15 years and we won.

We won better value on our farms and more and better jobs for our communities. We won for our country in becoming less dependent on those far away places that do not like us. We won by spending some of those energy dollars in rural America rather than Saudi Arabia. We won with new technologies and new jobs for our youth.
Now the RNC and their candidate for President want to dismantle and turn their back on us … rural America.

Sen. John McCain thinks he can take us for granted and we do not count. We must show him he is wrong. McCain has fought us on our renewable fuels issues, our farm bill safety net, our rural transportation issues, and our trade promotion programs. His farm team is window dressing; listen to what he has been saying.
It is strike 4 against agriculture and rural America.

I am distraught by this but thank goodness we have a choice. Barack Obama understands and supports us. He has kept his word and helped for our future. Sen. Obama has pledged to keep our energy policies in place and his history shows he will. Sen. Obama knows we need a better safety net and supports rural America.
As you look across your farm think about what would happen if your new market opportunities were taken away. What would happen to the thousands of young people across America who are studying to solve the challenges these new opportunities bring with them? What would we do with 3 billion bushels of corn with no market?
Rural America cannot afford John McCain. I will not be taken for granted. I am supporting the person who will listen and support rural America … Barack Obama.
