Butler County celebrates ag heritage
You are invited! The Butler County Cattlemen Assoc. Annual Meeting is a big event. It’s Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Izaac Walton League, 450 Beissinger Road, Hamilton, Ohio. The social time will begin at 6:30 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m.

Agriculture’s heritage and roots run deep in Butler County. Several families have owned the same land for more than 100 years.  The first Polled Shorthorn cow and the first Poland China pig were developed in Butler County, among other accomplishments. Many of Ohio’s ag leaders came from Butler County.

The program for this year’s annual meeting will feature a presentation that looks at our heritage and what we can learn from it. John Obrycki, Miami University’s Joanna Jackson Goldman Memorial Prize Scholar, will present “Ohio Agriculture Heritage Project – Rooted Wisdom.” The project is designed to further the understanding of our agricultural history, our current farming system, and the future direction of production.

The evening will include entertainment by Magician Dennis Goodlet, a trade show, door prizes, split the pot, and a live auction to support the cattlemen’s programs.

Reservations are required and should be called to Jim Booker, Butler County Cattlemen at 513-738-1147, or to OSU Extension, Butler County, at 513-887-3722. The cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children under 10, payable at the door.
