Zechariah 4:6. “This is the Word of the Lord to Zerubbabel saying, ‘Not by might nor by power but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of Hosts.”

In this technological age we have all become accustomed to many different types of gadgets. Cellphones, computers and earbuds are commonplace. These all have one thing in common; they must have a source of power.

The other day I realized my cellphone was not holding power. Apparently, during the night an update occurred that was just too much for my old version. Within just a few hours my charge went from 100 percent down to one and I knew I was in trouble.

I didn’t have time to purchase a new phone because I was going out of town. I resorted to carrying a battery pack with me as I traveled because a dead phone would have been useless. The external power provider would just have to be enough.

Zechariah, the prophet, had a vision. God told him to remind Zerubbabel, a Jewish leader who was working to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem, that his difficult job would only be accomplished through the power of His Spirit. Despite all the adversity he was facing, God would be faithful to him and only God would provide everything he needed to accomplish the job. This would not be done through man’s strength or wisdom, but by God’s Spirit.

How often today do we try to do things without asking for God’s help? Even in our Christian service we forget that it is the Holy Spirit Who gives us the power to accomplish anything of value. Striving without the enablement of the Spirit is as foolish as trying to use a dead cellphone.

No matter how much talent, strength or giftedness you have, always remember it is by the Holy Spirit that God achieves His work. We gain the victory and He gets the glory.

Work hard at all you do but stay connected to the power.
