LEXINGTON, Ky. — University of Kentucky Forages Extension and the Kentucky Master Grazer Educational Program will host the Summer Forage Tour Aug. 11 at Josett Farm in Springfield, Ky. The tour begins at 3 p.m. and will feature practical grazing strategies for improving beef cattle pastures.

"This Summer Forage Tour will highlight how a dairy‑turned‑beef farm is addressing toxic tall fescue with novel endophyte stands, putting native warm-season grasses like Eastern gamma grass and switchgrass into productive use, and rotationally grazing 350 acres with intention,” said Chris Teutsch, Ph.D., Extension forage specialist at the UK Research and Education Center. “Producers will be able to see these strategies first-hand and ask questions about implementation.”

John and Jill Settles, who are hosting the tour, have been part of the cattle industry for more than 30 years. After leaving the dairy industry in 2000, they transitioned to beef cattle and have continued building their operation at Josett Farm.

“Hoping to improve their pastures and the land that supports them, the Settles are consistent and patient in their practices, and this shows on their farm,” Teutsch said. “Come for a visit and see for yourself.”
