WOOSTER, Ohio – On Feb. 2, RES Auction Services held a commercial truck and trailer consignment auction with 43 lots of semis, specialty trucks, medium-duty vehicles, and a variety of enclosed and flatbed trailers. Of the lots, 31 were sold absolute.
The sale commenced with the 12 semi trucks. One of them, a 2018 Freightliner offered absolute, picked up the auction’s high bid of $24,000. The Cascadia model had 472,028 miles and featured a Detroit DD15 engine, automatic transmission, and sleeper cab.
Bidding went to $16,000 for a 2006 Kenworth T6 series semi truck with 1,393,886 miles. It was outfitted with a 475-hp CAT C-15 engine, rebuilt with CAT platinum parts in 2021 at 1,037,492 miles. The engine was paired to a 10-speed Eaton auto-shift transmission. Other features included dual wet line, new tires and batteries, and sleeper cab with couch, bunk, heat and AC.
Five more semis sold in the five-figure range. Among them was a 1996 Kenworth T600 that bid to $13,000. While its mileage exceeded mechanical limits, it had 900,000 miles on a rebuilt Detroit 12.7-liter engine. It had a 10-speed transmission, day cab, A/C, wet line, and eight new airbags added one year ago. Selling absolute, yet bringing $12,000, was a 2009 Kenworth T8 series cab and chassis truck with 628,307 miles, a CAT C-13 engine, 10-speed Eaton Fuller transmission, and 22-foot chassis.
Five additional semis sold for four-figure winning bids. A nicely equipped 1999 Freightliner CC conventional semi with 538,605 miles was offered absolute and hit a modest $6,500. It was outfitted with a Detroit 60 series engine, Eaton automatic transmission with clutch, PTO, and wet line kit. Another Freightliner with an odometer discrepancy made it to $5,000. The 1992 USF-1E had a CAT 3406B engine, 9-speed Eaton Fuller transmission, and sleeper cab.
Five heavy-duty trucks were offered, including a 2006 International 7600 dump truck with 543,655 miles. Although offered absolute, it pulled a tidy $18,000. It was powered by a Cummins engine paired with a 10-speed transmission, and included a 16-foot dump bed and power tailgate. A 1993 Mack CH600 dump truck with 287,974 miles, also offered absolute, didn’t fare as well, hitting a modest $8,000. That unit featured a Mack DE-300 engine, Eaton Fuller transmission, and 10-foot dump bed. A 1995 International 4900 single-axle digger derrick truck with 55,058 miles, an International DT466 engine and automatic transmission, sold absolute for $3,750.
Three medium-duty trucks were available. A 2015 Dodge 4WD Ram 4500 with 179,965 miles, a Cummins diesel engine, and a service bed was offered with no reserve, yet hit $18,000. Also offered absolute was a 2016 Ford F-550 flatbed with 139,961 miles, 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine, automatic transmission, and 14-foot flatbed with a crane. It hit $10,500. Rolling off at $9,000 on no reserve bidding was a 2009 4WD Chevrolet Silverado extended cab pickup, with 192,866 miles, a Duramax diesel engine, Allison transmission, utility bed, and ladder racks.
Trailer offerings included 10 53-foot dry van trailers, each selling absolute. Winning bids on those ranged from $1,250 for a 1998 Strick, to $5,750 for a 2007 Great Dane. Bidding on eight available flat-deck trailers ranged from $3,000 for a Trail King TK-2 24-foot tag trailer with a 19-foot deck, 5-foot dovetail, and steel ramps, to a more impressive $18,000 for a 2001 Load King 553 HHD 52-foot trailer with 24-foot well, rated at 125,000 lbs. GVWR.
Other trailers included a 2001 Mac 34-foot dump trailer rated at 80,000 lbs. GVWR. Despite being offered absolute, it rose to $16,000. A 2015 East BSTII 45-foot flatbed trailer with a Conestoga tarping system, brand new tires, air inflation system, and back axle dump was won for $9,000 despite pending title delays. Later, a 1990 AMC 46-foot 10-post logging trailer with an 11-foot top deck and 4-foot dovetail, went for just $1,500.
In a completely different track was a 2007 Blue Bird All American/All Canada school bus, with 112,689 miles, a CAT motor, and Allison automatic transmission. Offered absolute, it reached a modest $3,000.
