HAMILTON, Ohio – How many townships are in Butler County? How many FFA chapters? Who are the county commissioners? What is GMO? What is a female sheep called? Who made the first steel plow? What tractor is orange? These were a few of the 40 questions asked at the Butler County Farm Bureau’s (BCFB) Agriculture Trivia night. They ranged from history to farm animals. While the attendance was smaller than the organizers had wished for, everyone had a good time and hoped that the evening would be repeated. Jacob Schulte, on the BCFB’s board of trustees and current membership chair, ran the show. There was to be no use of cell phones or computers, and no cheating. “We’ve invited farm bureau members and members of the community,” Schulte said. “We wanted to have a fun, exciting, family-friendly night to talk policy, the history of ag, ag definitions, and practices. Just a night for the family to talk farming and have a social event.” They advertised the evening by sending farm bureau members a postcard and through social media. The 40 questions, developed by a mix of the membership board and Schulte, ranged from difficult to very easy. Schulte allowed 30 seconds each for the 40 questions. There were enough gift card prizes to go around to everyone. Erica and Jeff Moorman came with their kids, Grace, age 7, and a 4-H Cloverbud, and Bennett, age 5, in pre-school. “Jeff grew up on a dairy farm so we like to support agriculture in the county,” Erica said. “We would like to own a farm someday but right now we can’t afford it.” Everyone had fun, new friends were made, and the Moormans joined farm bureau.
