Little change in number of farms in the U.S. |
WASHINGTON, D.C. - There was little change last year in the number of farms nationwide. According to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), the number of farms remained the same from the previous year in 26 states, including Ohio. Four states witnessed slight gains in the amount of farms. |

Illinois performance tested bull sale has near record year |
MACOMB, Ill. – Intense demand and high-caliber performance genetics pushed the 2021 Illinois Performance Tested Bull Sale to its second-highest average in 53 years, with 34 lots of Angus, Simmental, and Polled Hereford bulls averaging $4,396. The sale, managed by Travis Meteer, University of Illinois Extension commercial ag educator, was held Feb. 25 at the Lowderman Auction Facility near Macomb. |

Midwestern Hemp Database will help farmers understand crop |
URBANA, Ill. — Though harvested acres were down in Illinois in 2020 from the year before, industrial hemp continues to be one of the fastest growing crops in Prairie State and Midwest farm fields. To more effectively share hemp cultivation best practices, University of Illinois Extension educators are working with growers and other land grant universities to source field data and provide research for the newly minted Midwestern Hemp Database. Researchers are currently recruiting more hemp producers in the race to learn more. |
